For our regular meetings, we usually meet on the third Tuesday of the month. A typical meeting consists of:

Sometimes we have "social" evenings instead, where we just go to a pub or restaurant and chat, rather than having formal technical talks, so you should always check the mailing list before assuming a meeting is going ahead.

The venue is open from 6pm, with talks starting around 7pm in Seminar Room 1.

This event takes place as part of The Birmingham Perl Mongers 2008 World Tour. 

Talks:
Subtitled 'Screen Scraping the O2 Website', Simon's talk looks at how he has used Perl to send MMS messages to his phone in a way that O2 and Apple don't seem to have considered!

On CPAN, the Perl code repository, there are over 100 testing distributions, many looking at a distinct aspect of testing. This talk takes a selection of the most valuable testing distributions and highlights how to get the best out of your test suite. Code examples of test suites and demostrations of running test suites included.

  • JJ * - Perl at The MS Scripting Games

The third annual Microsoft Scripting Games took place from February 15th to March 3rd 2008. This year, Microsoft introduced a Perl division, alongside VBScript and Windows PowerShell.

This talk walks through the Perl solutions for two of the events, and shows how you can take advantage of the new features of Perl 5.10 in a real-world situation.

Please note this is NOT a MessageLabs, now part of Symantec, event, it just happens to have been organised by GlosLUG subscribers who happen to be MessageLabs/Symantec employees and booked the room. This should be considered as a Gloucestershire LUG event, and is free entry for all. ;-)

Facilities available at the seminar room include XSVGA projector, WiFi, tea/coffee machine, wheelchair access and free parking. Buses

The Stagecoach number 10 bus serves Gloucester Business Park in Brockworth, where we have our meetings at MessageLabs' offices. Bus 10 runs a circular service from both Gloucester and Cheltenham town centres. It runs every 10 minutes during the day, then drops to every half hour after 7pm, hourly after midnight.

The number 10 bus has stops both ways on Hucclecote Road officially designated as "Gloucester Business Park". From there, walk south along Delta Way past Tescos to the waterfall at the roundabout off Valiant Way. Then walk west to Lansdowne Court, there should be signposts saying "Business Offices", "Lansdowne Court" and, as you get closer, MessageLabs. Total walking distance from bus stop approx. 1km / 0.6 miles.
